Removing the upper suspension arm and replacing the silent blocks
Hang up and remove the front wheel.
Disconnect the upper ball joint from the arm (see Removing the upper ball joint).
Using a 19 mm socket, unscrew the nuts of the two bolts securing the arm to the bracket crossbars.
Hold the bolts from turning with a wrench of the same size (the generator has been removed for clarity).
Removing the arm assembly with the axle.
Washers are installed on the bolts between the axle and the crossmember bracket to adjust the longitudinal tilt angles of the steering axis and camber of the front wheels.
Having clamped the arm axle in a vice, use a 22 mm wrench to loosen the two axle nuts.
Removing thrust washer
To press out the silent blocks, install a puller on the arm so that its cup rests on the end of the arm eye, and screw the puller bolt with an internal thread onto the axle.
Tightening the nut of the puller bolt (while holding the bolt from turning), press the silent block out of the arm.
After removing the silent block from the axle, install it in the eyes of the arm and use the puller we press out the second silent block.
If there is no puller, we press out the silent block by prying the outer bushing with a chisel.
To install new silent blocks, we press one silent block into the eye of the arm with a cup puller.
Before pressing in the second th silent block, we clamp the lever in a vice, insert the axle with thrust washers into the lever eyes and screw the nut onto the axle from the side of the pressed silent block.
We insert the second silent block into the eye hole.
We insert a mandrel made from a suitable piece of pipe (160 mm long, 42 mm inner diameter, 32 mm slot width) into the space between the lever eyes.
We rest the puller cup against the end of the outer bushing of the silent block.
While screwing the puller bolt onto the arm axis, we press in the silent block
If there is no puller, rest the end of the arm eye on the jaws of a vice.
Press in the silent block with a tool head of a suitable size (a piece of pipe).
Install the arm in the reverse order
Finally tighten the nuts securing the silent blocks to the axle in the "car on wheels" position
Removing the lower suspension arm and replacing the silent blocks
Hang up and remove the front wheel.
Disconnect the lower ball joint from the arm (see Removing the lower ball joint).
Disconnect the shock absorber mount from the lower spring support cup (see Removing the shock absorber) and the stabilizer bar cushion clip
Remove the spring.
Using a 24 mm wrench, unscrew the lower arm axle nut, holding the axle from turning with a 1/4" wrench. 19»
Removing the thrust washer
We knock out the axle with a soft metal punch and take it out.
Removing the thrust washers
Removing the lower control arm with the spring support cup
Using a cup puller, press the silent block out of the arm eye
If there is no puller, rest the end of the lever eye on the jaws of the vice and, striking the end of the silent block with a hammer, knock it out.
Press the new silent block into the arm eye using a cup puller or a suitable piece of pipe
Install the arm in the reverse order.
Finally tighten the arm axle mounting nut in the "car on wheels" position
