Removing the upper ball joint

The operation is performed when replacing the ball joint or the boot (dust cover) of the ball pin.

Hang up and remove the front wheel.

Using a 22 mm socket, unscrew the nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle.

Remove the two clamps (pressure plates) securing the brake hoses.

Install the stop under the lower lever.

Using a 13 mm wrench, loosen the nut on the bolt securing the ball joint to the upper arm, holding the bolt from turning with a wrench of the same size.

Loosen the nuts on two more bolts.

Remove the bolts and move the steering knuckle with the ball joint away from the upper arm.

Using a puller, press out the ball joint pin from the steering knuckle hole

If you don't have a puller, unscrew the ball joint mounting nut and remove the brake clamps hoses.

Compress the spring with a stop installed under the lower arm.

Insert a block between the upper arm and the rebound buffer bracket.

Fit the ball joint pin nut.

Remove the stop.

By striking the eye of the steering knuckle with a hammer, press the ball joint pin out of the hole in the steering knuckle.

Having unscrewed the nuts of the bolts securing the ball joint to the upper arm and support pin nut, remove the ball joint.

Remove the protective cover of the ball joint

When installing a new ball joint cover, add SHRB-4 grease to it.

Assemble and install the ball joint in the reverse order

Removing the lower ball joint

Hang up and remove the front wheel.

Unscrew the adjusting nut of the front hub bearings, to do this:

Using a chisel, separate the protective cap from the hub

Using a chisel, straighten the crumpled nut belt.

Using a 27 mm open-end wrench, loosen the adjusting nut of the hub bearings.

Using a 22 mm open-end wrench, loosen the nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle ku.

Install the stop under the lower arm.

Using a 13 mm wrench, unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the ball joint to the lower arm, holding the bolt from turning with a wrench of the same size.

Unscrew the nuts of two more bolts.

Move the steering knuckle with the ball joint away from the lower arm

Using a puller, press out the ball joint pin from the hole in the steering knuckle

You can also use this puller.

Move the steering knuckle to the side and remove the outer joint housing tailstock from the hub.

Remove the ball joint.

If there is no puller, unscrew (not completely) the nut securing the ball joint to the steering knuckle.

Compress the spring with a stop installed under the lower arm.

Insert the mounting blade with its edge between the end of the lower arm eye and the support pressure plate.

By striking the eye of the steering knuckle with a hammer, press the ball joint pin out of the hole fist.

After unscrewing the support pin nut and the adjusting nut of the front hub bearings, move the steering knuckle to the side and remove the stop.

Unscrew the nuts of the bolts securing the ball joint to the lower arm and remove the ball joint.

When installing a new ball joint cover, add SHRUS-4 grease to it.

Assemble and install the ball joint in the reverse order.
