Removing the steering wheel
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
Use a slotted screwdriver to pry up the decorative trim of the horn switch cover and remove it.
Use a 24mm socket to unscrew the steering wheel mounting nut.
For correct installation of the steering wheel, you need to mark the position of the steering wheel relative to the shaft
By rocking, pull towards yourself and remove the steering wheel.
If the steering wheel sits very tightly on the splines of the upper shaft, then pull the wheel towards you, striking the end of the shaft through a soft metal drift
Removing the steering column
Remove the steering wheel.
Remove the steering column facing covers.
Remove the ignition switch (see Removing the ignition switch).
Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the lower universal joint fork of the intermediate shaft to the steering gear worm shaft, holding the bolt from turning with a wrench of the same size.
Remove the bolt.
Two bolts of the front mounting of the steering shaft bracket to the body have shear heads
By hitting the bolt heads with a chisel, loosen them
Use pliers to unscrew the bolts.
Remove the fixing plates of the bolts.
Using a 13mm socket, unscrew the two nuts on the front bracket fastening
Lower the steering shaft
Using a screwdriver to open the split fork of the cardan joint, pull the shaft from the splines of the steering gear worm shaft.
To remove the intermediate shaft, use two 13mm wrenches to unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the universal joint fork of the intermediate shaft to the upper steering shaft.
Remove the bolt and remove the earth wire terminal
Pull the universal joint fork off the splines of the upper steering shaft
Assemble and install the steering column in the reverse order.
