We carry out the work on an inspection pit or lift.
In the car, remove the wires from the differential lock indicator light switch, for this:
Using a Phillips screwdriver, unscrew the four screws securing the plastic cover of the levers (the fifth screw is common with the fastening of the floor tunnel trim).
Pull and remove the gearshift lever head.
Similarly, remove the differential lock lever head.
Remove the rubber covers with the plastic cover from the levers.
Remove the lower rubber cover.
Disconnect the wires from the differential lock indicator light switch.
Use pliers to unscrew the open-end nut of the flexible shaft of the speedometer drive
Disconnect the speedometer drive from the transfer case
For the VAZ-21214 car, disconnect the speed sensor connector
Disconnect the front and rear cardan shafts from the transfer case (see. Removing the cardan shaft).
Using a 19 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the nut of the bolt securing the elastic coupling to the gearbox flange, holding the bolt with a wrench of the same size.
In the same way, unscrew the nuts of the other two bolts.
Use a clamp (with a diameter of 135 mm) to compress the elastic coupling so that the bolts can be removed.
If there is no long clamp, use two shorter ones, inserting the tongue of one into the lock of the other.
We take out the bolts one by one: we turn the elastic coupling so that the bolt extends into the recess located on the left side of the rear cover of the gearbox.
We install an adjustable stop under the transfer case.
So that after replacing the suspension bracket the transfer case takes its previous position, use a scriber (with a felt-tip pen) trace the bracket along the contour.
Substitute under the transfer case adjustable support.
Using a "13" head, unscrew the two nuts securing the left bracket to the body.
Using a 17 mm open-end wrench, unscrew the nut securing the suspension bracket to the transfer case.
Having lowered the transfer case on the adjustable support, remove the suspension bracket.
The right bracket is removed in the same way, except that on the VAZ-21214 car, before removing it, it is necessary to dismantle the heat shield located above the catalytic converter.
Remove the right bracket (the catalytic converter does not interfere with removal).
Install the transfer case suspension brackets in the reverse order, aligning them with the marks.
Lowering the stop and moving the transfer case back, remove it together with the intermediate shaft.
The transfer case can be removed without the intermediate shaft by disconnecting its fastening to the flange of the transfer case drive shaft
We install the transfer case in the reverse order. After installation, it must be centered.
To do this, hang up the front and rear axles of the car.
Place supports under the rear axle beam so that the rear axle takes the same position as it is when the car is on its wheels.
Turn on the transfer case, start the engine, engage direct transmission of the gearbox and increase engine speed.
If vibration of the transfer case occurs, stop the engine and loosen the nuts securing the brackets of its suspension.
By moving the transfer case, we achieve the elimination of its vibration with the engine running (this may require adjusting shims, which are installed between the brackets and the body).
In this position, finally tighten the nuts securing the brackets of the transfer case suspension.
