Rear axle reducer ZIL-5301
A leading rear axle with a single-stage hypoid final drive is installed on the car and bus (Fig. 1). The final gear ratio is 3.273 or 3.45.
Differential - conical with four satellites.
The axle shafts are fully unloaded.
The drive axle housing is prefabricated, one-piece, it consists of a cast iron body with steel casings pressed into it, to which flanges and brackets are welded.
When determining the condition of the rear axle by noise, make sure that the sound comes from the axle.
It is quite difficult to do this due to the relatively high noise level of the diesel engine.
Usually, the check is carried out by the exclusion method:
1. In the acceleration mode of the car, they listen to noises and notice the speed at which they appear and disappear;
The same is done in the engine braking mode without using the brake system.
Typically, rear axle noise during deceleration and acceleration occurs at the same speeds;
2. When coasting and the gear lever is in neutral.
In this case, the main gear gears are not loaded and do not make noticeable noise, therefore, if the nature of the noise coincides with the noise during acceleration of the car or engine braking, then this means that its source is not the main gear.
If the nature of the noise changes, then it is likely that the source of the noise is the final drive gears, or the bearings of the drive gear or differential;
3. On a stationary, braked car, listen to the operation of the engine in various modes to eliminate the noise caused by its operation;
With the vehicle safely braked, with the rear wheels raised, start the engine and engage fifth gear. In this case, you can determine that the noise really comes from the main gear.
