In accordance with routine work on the suspension during its maintenance, it is necessary to periodically tighten the nuts of the stepladders, the nuts of the bolts of the rubber-metal hinges, the fastening parts of the spring brackets and shock absorbers
It is recommended to pay special attention to the timely tightening of the rubber compression spring fastening, since a loose fastening can lead to its loss.
In this case, the load on the front spring increases significantly and its dynamic travel increases, which will ultimately lead to premature failure of the spring.
Inspection and fault detection of suspensions
Rubber-metal hinges and rubber cushions must be replaced in case of ruptures and one-sided bulging of rubber, as well as when their end surfaces are trimmed
Suspensions on rubber parts are not allowed:
- - signs of rubber aging;
- - mechanical damage.
On rubber-metal hinges (silent blocks) the following are not allowed:
- - signs of aging, cracks, one-sided bulging of the rubber mass;
- - separation of the rubber mass from the reinforcement.
Replace defective parts.
Inspect the following key areas underneath the vehicle
Compression buffers
Rubber bushings for lower and upper shock absorber joints
Rubber bushings of the front and rear ends of the springs.
Check the fastening of the kingpin in the steering knuckle and in the front axle beam.
Check the fastening of the kingpin in the steering knuckle and in the front axle beam
Inspect the shock absorbers. Shock absorber fluid leaks and fogging are not allowed.
Raise the front wheel with a jack and place the car on a support
When working on a lift, be careful not to drop the car when lowering it onto the support.
Roll the wheel in a vertical plane.
If play is felt (the upper outer edge of the brake caliper moves more than 0.5 mm, this distance can be measured, for example, using an indicator), then the king pin and bushing are worn out and need to be replaced.
When inspecting the rear suspension, you need to inspect:
- - rubber bushings of the lower and upper shock absorber hinges;
- - rubber bushings of the front and rear ends of the springs;
- - rubber cushions for additional springs;
- - compression buffer;
- - shock absorbers.
To increase the anti-corrosion resistance of multi-leaf springs, it is necessary to periodically lubricate their leaves with graphite lubricant (in particular, when overhauling or when replacing sheets), in its absence - with a mixture consisting of 30% solid oil, 30% graphite and 40% transformer oil.
