If the support check revealed the need to replace it (see "Checking the Niva Chevrolet Suspension"), replace it
You will need: "13", "22", "27" spanners (two), a lug wrench, a metal brush, a support (screw or hydraulic jack), a mounting blade, a hammer.
Remove the wheel.
Place a support under the lower arm, load the suspension (lowering the car or raising the lower arm with a jack) so that the position of the arms approximately corresponds to their position under load.
Remove the hub cap.
Unscrew the hub nut.
The hub nut is tightened with a high torque.
Therefore, we recommend using a head with a strong ratchet.
Unscrew the nut of the ball joint pin
Press out the pin of the support from the boss of the swivel knuckle.
If you don't have a puller, use a hammer.
Pressing the upper arm down, strike the side of the steering knuckle boss several times with a hammer until the pin comes out of it.
Unscrew the three nuts securing the support to the arm, remove the bolts and move the steering knuckle aside, removing the wheel hub from the splines of the outer joint of the front wheel drive.
Be careful when removing the hub from the joint splines, do not remove the inner joint tailstock from the front axle gearbox, which will cause grease to leak out of the axle.
Remove the ball joint
If you removed the support only to replace the protective cover, check its condition by turning the ball pin by hand.
Free play of the pin or its jamming are not allowed.
Install a new ball joint or a new cover in the reverse order of removal.
After installing the hub, do not forget adjust the bearing clearance and lock the hub nut.
After replacing the ball joint, check and, if necessary, adjust the wheel alignment angles.
