In the article, we will consider possible malfunctions of the steering and methods for their elimination

If you feel the radial movement of the steering column shaft on the steering wheel, then it is possible:

  • - wear of steering shaft bearings (replace bearings);
  • - loosening the steering column mounting bolts (tighten the bolts);

If the steering wheel free play is increased:

  • - incorrect adjustment of the side clearance of the steering mechanism (adjust the side clearance);
  • - adjustment of the ball joints of the steering trapezoid is violated (adjust the ball joints);
  • - wear of the bushings of the bipod shaft (replace the crankcase of the steering mechanism or bushings);
  • - loosening the bipod fastening nut (tighten the bipod nut);
  • - loosen the steering wheel fastening (tighten the nut).

Steering mechanism sticking:

  • - incorrect adjustment of the side clearance of the steering mechanism (adjust the side clearance);
  • - wear of the roller or worm (replace worn parts).

Oil leaking from the crankcase of the steering mechanism:

  • - wear or damage to the sealing lip (replace defective parts);
  • - increased oil level (restore normal oil level);
  • - damage to the gaskets or loosening of the crankcase cover bolts (replace the gaskets or tighten the cover bolts);

Extraneous knocks in the steering mechanism:

  • - lack of oil in the crankcase of the mechanism (eliminate the cause of leakage and pour new oil into the crankcase);
  • - destruction of the working surfaces of the worm and roller (replace defective parts)

Wear spots on front tires:

  • - loosening of the fastening of the steering parts (check and tighten the loose steering parts);
  • - backlash in the ball joints of the steering trapezium (adjust or replace the ball joints);
  • - loosening of fasteners of steering parts (check and tighten loose steering parts);
  • - the steering mechanism is not adjusted (adjust the steering mechanism).
