If the handbrake cable is very stretched or jammed, it is better to replace the cable
If the parking brake system does not hold the car on a slope of up to 25% when the drive lever is moved by 4-5 teeth of the ratchet device, the parking brake must be adjusted.
Place the car on an inspection pit or lift.
Hang out the rear axle of the car and lower the parking brake drive lever to the lower position.
Holding the adjusting nut with a 13 mm wrench, loosen the lock nut with the same wrench.
Holding the end of the cable with pliers, tighten the adjusting nut with a 13 mm wrench.
You can also hold the end of the cable at the point where it connects to the spring, squeezing its end with pliers.
In this case, the full stroke of the parking brake drive lever should be 4–5 teeth of the ratchet device sector.
When the lever is fully lowered, the wheels should rotate freely, without jamming.
In this position, tighten the lock nut.
To remove the front cable and the parking brake drive lever, lower the lever to the lower position.
Remove the release spring.
Use two 13 mm wrenches to loosen the nuts.
While holding the end of the front cable with pliers, use the high 13 mm head to simultaneously unscrew the adjusting nut and lock nut.
Remove the spacer sleeve from the end of the front cable
Remove the rear cable guide.
Use pliers to remove the cotter pin
Remove the thrust washer
Disconnect the front cable from the parking brake drive lever
In the cabin, use a Phillips screwdriver to unscrew the side mount screw for the lever casing.
Unscrew the rear mount screw.
Remove the lever cover.
Remove the sealing gasket.
Using a 10 mm socket, unscrew the four bracket mounting bolts lever to the floor.
Removing the parking brake drive lever
To remove the rear parking brake drive cable, disconnect its ends from the rear shoe hand drive levers (see Replacing the rear brake pads).
Remove the rear cable guide.
Slide the protective rubber cap off the end of the cable sheath.
Use a screwdriver to move the end of the cable sheath
We take it out of the hole in the body bracket.
Use pliers to straighten the eye of the rear axle beam bracket
We take out the cable.
Using a 10 mm spanner, loosen the two bolts securing the cable housing holder to the brake shield.
Remove the cable tip from the hole in the brake shield.
This way In the same way, we release the other end of the rear cable.
Remove the rear cable of the parking brake system
Install the cable in the reverse order.
Adjust the parking brake system.
Increasing the possibility of adjusting the parking brake
If the thread reserve on the tip of the front parking brake cable is used up (as shown in Fig. a), you can select a section of suitable tube (Fig. b) and put it on the tip under the adjusting nut.
Now the possibility of adjustment will increase.
Washer for fastening the parking brake cable
If the parking brake has stopped "holding", the cause may be the separated tabs of the bracket holding the rear brake casing wasp.
In this case, to fix the cable sheath in the bracket, you can use a washer with a slot, which should be inserted between the bracket and the sheath bushing.
The slot in the washer should be directed "against" the slot in the bracket.
