In accordance with the maintenance regulations, we replace the auxiliary drive belt on a vehicle equipped only with power steering every 60 thousand km
mileage or after 4 years (whichever comes first) regardless of its condition, on other vehicles - after 120 thousand km or after 6 years.
We perform the work on an inspection pit or overpass.
Depending on the vehicle configuration, there are three options for auxiliary drive schemes:
- — with power steering and air conditioning;
- — with power steering, without air conditioning;
- — without power steering and air conditioning.
We recommend checking the condition of the belt at each maintenance.
The belt must be replaced if any damage is found on it. cracks, tears and delamination of the rubber from the fabric base.
Option 1 (with power steering and air conditioning)
The belt tension of a car with power steering and air conditioning is adjusted automatically by the tensioner.
To replace the belt, remove the right mudguard of the engine compartment.
To loosen the belt tension, from underneath the car, put an open-end wrench or a 13 head on the tensioner mounting bolt roller and turn the roller bracket clockwise, overcoming the force of the tensioner spring, until the hole in the roller bracket and the recess in the device body are aligned (shown on a removed engine for clarity).
Fix the roller bracket by inserting a 6 mm hex key or a 6 mm diameter rod into its hole and recess in the tensioner body.
Scheme of auxiliary drive units of the car with power steering and air conditioning:
Remove the auxiliary drive belt.
The marking of the auxiliary drive belt of the car with power steering and air conditioning is 5K 1747 (five-V-belt, 1747 mm long).
When replacing the belt, it is also necessary to replace the support and tension rollers
To replace the support roller, use an open-end wrench or a 13 head to unscrew the bolt that secures it
Remove the bolt with the roller protective cover
Remove the support roller. Also remove the tension roller.
To replace the tensioner, use a 13 mm head to unscrew the two bolts securing the tensioner housing and remove the tensioner complete with roller.
Automatic tensioner assembly. Install the removed parts in the reverse order.
Before installing the belt, the tension roller bracket must be turned clockwise and fixed.
Place the belt on the pulleys so that it is shifted to their outer edge 1, and the inner groove of the pulleys 2 remains free
When installing the belt, place it on the pulleys and place it under the tension and support rollers in accordance with the diagram drive.
The drives of auxiliary units, generator, air conditioner compressor and power steering pump are six-groove, and the drive belt is five-V-belt.
After installing the belt, slightly turn the tension roller with a key, remove the retainer. Then, using a 18 mm head with a ratchet, turn the crankshaft clockwise three times by the bolt securing its pulley to achieve the correct position of the belt.
Option 2 (with power steering, without air conditioning)
The manufacturer recommends checking the tension of the auxiliary belt of a vehicle with power steering and without air conditioning using a special device (strain gauge tester).
Considering that the belt may have to be changed on the road (for example, if it breaks), far from the service, we will show a method by which you can approximately estimate the belt tension.
Excessive belt tension leads to premature failure of the belt and tension roller, as well as auxiliary unit bearings.
Remove the right mudguard of the engine compartment.
From below the car, press on the belt with your thumb in the middle between the pulleys of the power steering pump and the crankshaft.
With a pressing force of -10 kgf, the belt deflection should be 6-8 mm.
To tension the belt, loosen the two bolts 4 securing the tension roller bracket and rotate the adjusting bolt 3 clockwise.
After tensioning the belt, tighten the bolts securing the tension roller.
To replace the belt, loosen the bolts 4 securing the tension roller bracket and turn the adjusting bolt 3 counterclockwise several turns.
After loosening the belt tension, remove it from the pulleys.
The marking of the auxiliary drive belt of a car with power steering and without air conditioning is 5K 1110 (five-V-belt, 1110 mm long).
When replacing the belt, you must also replace its tension roller.
Install the auxiliary drive belt in the reverse order.
The auxiliary drive pulleys, generator and power steering pump are six-groove, and the drive belt is five-V-belt.
We place the belt on the pulleys so that it is shifted to the inner edge 1 of the pulleys, and the outer groove of the pulleys 2 remains free. Adjusting the belt tension
Option 3 (without power steering and air conditioning)
To check the tension of the alternator drive belt on a car without power steering and without air conditioning, press the belt with your thumb in the middle between the alternator and crankshaft pulleys.
With a pressing force of -10 kgf, the belt deflection should be 6-8 mm.
To tension the belt, remove the right mudguard of the engine compartment.
Loosen bolt 4 of the lower generator mount and bolt 2 of the generator mount to the tension bar.
Tighten the belt by moving the generator away from the engine cylinder block with a mounting blade.
Tighten the generator mounting bolts.
When replacing the belt, loosen its tension and remove the belt from the crankshaft and generator pulleys.
The marking of the generator drive belt on a car without power steering and without air conditioning is 4РК 718 (four-V-belt, 718 mm long).
Install the generator drive belt in the reverse order and adjust its tension.
