According to factory recommendations, the alternator belt should be replaced after 15 thousand km
If the generator drive belt tension is weak, the battery is not sufficiently charged.
Usually when the belt is weak, it begins to slip on the engine pulley and generator pulley.
A characteristic “whistle” appears. It is especially clearly audible when the engine is first started and with a sharp increase in engine speed.
The generator pulley is subject to intense heat and wear.
Excessive belt tension causes increased loads on the belt, generator bearings and tension roller, which leads to their premature failure.
The belt must be replaced if it is pulled out, cracks are found on it, or the rubber delaminates.
To check the tension of the generator drive belt, press the lower branch of the belt up with your hand
In the middle between the generator and crankshaft pulleys.
With a pressing force of 100 N (10 kgf), the belt deflection should be about 10 mm.
To tension the belt, put a size 8 spanner on the hexagon of the adjusting pin of the tensioner and, holding the stud, use a size 19 spanner and loosen the tightening of its lock nut
Use a 8-mm head to rotate the adjusting pin counterclockwise.
In this case, the tension roller will press harder on the upper branch of the belt, tightening it.
After tensioning the belt, tighten the lock nut of the stud.
To replace the generator drive belt, loosen the locknut of the tensioner adjusting pin and rotate the pin clockwise.
Having loosened the belt tension, remove it from under the tension roller and remove it from the generator pulleys and crankshaft.
Marking of the generator drive belt 6K 882 (the belt profile has six V-protrusions, circumference 882 mm).
Install the new belt in the reverse order and adjust its tension.
When replacing a belt, you need to pay attention to the condition of the tension roller.
