The design feature of the transmission with the JH3 gearbox is the approximation of equal length of the drives

Due to the equal length of the drives, equality of moments and forces that occur on the drive wheels is ensured.

The left wheel drive is increased due to the internal hinge, which is made inside the gearbox housing.

Elements of the inner hinge of the left wheel drive: 1 - clamp for fastening the boot on the outer ring of the bearing; 2 - protective boot of the hinge; 3 - boot holder; 4 - three-stud retaining ring; 5 - three-stud; 6 - bearing; 7 - mud deflector

The right wheel drive, on the contrary, is reduced due to the splined shaft, which is made in one piece with the differential axle gear and comes out of the gearbox.

Elements of the inner joint of the right wheel drive: 1 - drive shaft; 2 - small boot mounting clamp; 3 - joint boot; 4 - large boot mounting clamp; 5 - mud deflector; 6 - joint housing; 7 - spring; 8 - three-stud retaining ring; 9 - spring thrust washer; 10 - three-stud

A rubber damper is installed on the right wheel drive shaft. The outer and inner hinges of the drives (type "Tripod") have different designs.

The hinges of the drives are covered with mudguards.

The inner hinge of the drive provides the possibility of angular movements of the suspension and compensates for the mutual movements of the suspension and the power unit by changing the length of the drive shaft.

The inner hinge is disassemblable.

A hub with three studs is installed on the splined end of the drive shaft on the side of the inner hinge - a three-stud hub, on each of the studs (journal) of which there is a roller with an outer spherical surface rotating on a needle bearing.

The needle bearing is fixed from displacement along the axis of the stud by a locking ring put on a retaining ring located in the groove of the stud.

The three-stud hub is fixed on the shaft drive with a retaining ring.

The mutual movements of the suspension and the power unit are compensated by the movement of the three-stud rollers in the longitudinal grooves of the inner hinge housing.

The inner hinges of the left and right wheel drives are not interchangeable.

The end of the inner hinge housing of the right wheel drive is put on a splined shaft coming out of the gearbox housing and made integral with the differential axle gear

The end of the inner hinge housing of the right wheel drive is put on a splined shaft coming out of the gearbox housing and made integral with the differential axle gear (see fig. 3).

The spring installed inside the housing of the inner joint of the right wheel drive ensures that the joint housing is pressed against the differential axle gear when the suspension is operating.

The housing of the inner joint of the left wheel drive is located in the gearbox and is made integral with the left axle gear of the differential

The housing of the inner joint of the left wheel drive is located in the gearbox and is made integral with the left axle gear of the differential (shown in Figure 4 with the drive removed).

Bearing with seal of inner joint of left drive

Needle bearing with seal is installed on the left wheel drive shaft behind the three-spindle of inner joint.

The inner ring of the bearing is pressed onto the drive shaft and rotates together with it.

A protective cover of inner joint is secured with a clamp on the fixed outer ring of the bearing.

The other end of the cover of joint is secured to the gearbox housing through a metal flange holder.

Seal installed in the outer ring bearing, prevents oil leakage from the gearbox along the drive shaft.

The bearing seal is protected from dirt by a plastic mud deflector installed on the shaft.

If the mud cover of the joint or the oil seal is damaged, bearing, oil will leak from the gearbox.

Outer drive joint: 1 - knuckle; 2 - roller; 3 - three-stud; 4 - hinge housing

The outer hinge of the drive (Fig. 6) ensures the transmission of torque at different angles of rotation of the drive wheels.

The outer hinges of the drives of both wheels are identical, are made non-separable and are not dismantled from the shafts.

The outer hinge consists of a housing in which a three-stud with rollers rotating on needle bearings is rigidly fixed, and a knuckle made integral with the drive shaft.

With mutual angular displacements of the housing and the knuckle of the hinge, the rollers of the three-stud roll in the longitudinal grooves of the knuckle.

The housing of the outer hinge enters the splined hole of the wheel hub with a splined shank and is secured with a hub bearing nut.

The outer hinges of both drives and the inner hinge of the right drive contain consistent lubrication for their entire service life.

Right (A) and left (B) wheel drives: 1 - outer joint housing; 2 - large clamp for fastening the outer joint boot; 3 - outer joint boot; 4 - small clamp for fastening the outer joint boot; 5 - damper; 6 - right wheel drive shaft; 7 - small clamp for fastening the right wheel drive inner joint boot; 8 - right wheel drive inner joint boot; 9 - large clamp; 10 - right wheel drive inner joint housing; 11 - left wheel drive inner joint three-stud; 12 - left wheel drive inner joint boot holder; 13 - left wheel drive inner joint boot; 14 - left wheel drive inner joint boot fastening clamp; 15 - left wheel drive shaft

Addition or replacement of lubricant, as well as any other maintenance of the wheel drive shafts during the operation of the vehicle is not required.

It is only necessary to monitor the condition of the protective covers of the hinges and the clamps of their fastening, as well as the condition of the bearing seal of the inner hinge of the left drive.

A damaged cover must be replaced as soon as possible, since dirt getting into the lubricant causes rapid wear of the hinge parts and its failure, and damage to the rubber boot or the bearing seal of the inner hinge of the left drive will lead to oil leakage from the gearbox and its failure.

When installing a new hinge cover, the clamps of its fastening should also be replaced with new ones.

In the event of failure of the outer hinge, it is necessary to replace the entire drive assembly, and in the event of failure of the inner hinge of the drive, only the hinge.

The bearing (assembled with the seal) of the inner hinge of the left wheel drive is supplied as spare parts together with a protective cover.
