A complete lack of clearance, in which tight rotation of the hub is observed, also leads to a reduction in service life.
The clearance in the front wheel hub bearings should be no more than 0.15 mm.
You will need: a key for wheel bolts, a 27 key, a hammer.
Place the car on supports
Remove the corresponding wheel.
Remove the decorative cap, loosen the hub nut and, holding the hub with a suitable handle from turning, unscrew nut.
Screw and tighten the new hub nut to a torque of 19.6 Nm (2 kgf m), while turning the hub approximately 90° in both directions 2-3 times to self-align the bearings.
It should be taken into account that if the bearing has a large play, the bearing must be replaced.
Since tightening a bearing with increased wear will cause progressive wear of the bearing.
And eliminating the play can only be a temporary measure.
Loosen the adjusting nut and tighten it again to a torque of 6.8 Nm (0.7 kgf m)
Loosen the adjusting nut by about 25°.
Lock the hub nut (by pressing the nut flange into two grooves on the housing journal outer joint of the front wheel drive).
Reinstall the removed parts in the reverse order of removal.
The most accurate way to determine the clearance is with an indicator.
If you do not have an indicator, swing the suspended wheel in a vertical plane.
If you feel any play, it may be necessary to adjust the clearance in the bearings.
For a final check of the bearing, ask an assistant to press the brake pedal and hold it down.
Again swing the wheel in a vertical plane.
The disappearance of the wheel play during this check confirms the need to adjust the clearance in the bearings.
When adjusting, be sure to replace the hub nuts with new ones, since after adjustment the nut may take its previous position and it will not be possible to securely lock it, since the flange in the right place will already be damaged by the previous one. locking.
As a last resort, if possible, use a nut from another car.
After adjusting the clearance in the hub bearings, make sure the wheel rotates easily.
Conduct a final check of the correct adjustment by assessing the degree of heating of the hubs after the car has run about 1 km without using the brakes.
