The car parking system is designed to detect obstacles located behind the car and warn the driver of the distance to the obstacle with an acoustic signaling device

The system detects an obstacle using four ultrasonic sensors operating on the principle of echolocation, which are located in the rear bumper of the car.

The parking system includes the following components:

  • - control unit of the safe parking system;
  • - sensor of the safe parking system;
  • - signaling unit of the safe parking system;
  • - rear bumper;
  • - wiring harness of the sensors of the safe parking system.

The system is activated automatically if the key in the ignition switch is in the "I" position and the reverse gear is engaged, while a short high-pitched sound signal is heard, confirming the activation of the system.

If the obstacle is in the zone detection, the system informs the driver of the presence of an obstacle with an audible signal.

The signal can be intermittent or continuous, depending on the distance to the obstacle. The car can move in reverse or stop.

When the car approaches an obstacle, starting from a distance of about 100 cm, an intermittent high-pitched alarm signal is activated, the frequency of which increases as it gets closer to the obstacle.

The signal becomes continuous when the distance between the bumper and the obstacle is about 40 cm.

After disengaging the reverse gear, the safe parking system is automatically disabled.

Features of operation and use of the safe parking system

After turning on the system, the control unit carries out a comprehensive check in order to detect defective sensors or other system malfunctions.

If a defective sensor or other system malfunction is detected, after the activation signal, a continuous high-pitched sound signal is heard for 3 s, then:

  • - if the left (in the direction of the car) sensor is faulty, the system signals the faulty sensor with one short high-pitched signal tones;
  • - if the central left (in the direction of the vehicle) sensor is faulty, the system signals the faulty sensor with two short high-tone signals;
  • - if the central right (in the direction of the vehicle) sensor is faulty, the system signals the faulty sensor with three short high-tone signals;
  • - if the right (in the direction of the vehicle) sensor is faulty, the system signals the faulty sensor with four short high-tone signals;
  • - if the control unit is faulty, five short high-tone signals are heard.

After signaling the presence of a malfunction, the system switches off.

It should be taken into account that due to the peculiarities of the propagation of ultrasonic waves, the system does not always detect dangerous obstacles:

  • - located near the car below the sensors;
  • - absorbing ultrasonic waves - down clothing, soft snow and etc.;
  • - scattering ultrasonic waves - thin objects, pointed objects, smooth walls.

In addition, heavy precipitation and/or other conditions that result in distorted reflection of sensor signals may impair the ability of the sensors to detect obstacles.

When the vehicle is fully loaded, low-lying obstacles that are not dangerous for collision may be detected.

When operating the vehicle with a trailer, the parking system may be disabled.

To prevent incorrect operation, the sensors must be kept free of snow, ice and dirt.

When cleaning the sensors, do not use hard or sharp objects.

Removal and installation of components and parts of the safe parking system

Safe parking system sensor - removal and installation

Preparing the vehicle for work.

Installing the vehicle on lift. Raise the hood and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

Raise the car to a height convenient for performing the work.

Disconnect the connector of sensor 1, Figure 1, of the safe parking system from the connector of the harness 2 of the rear bumper wires.

Sensors of the safe parking system (on the removed rear bumper): 1 - sensor of the safe parking system; 2 - harness of the rear bumper; 3 - rear bumper

Press the latches of the holder 2, figure 2, of the parking sensor and remove the sensor 1 of the safe parking system.

If necessary, squeeze the latches of the holder and remove the parking sensor holder from the rear bumper.

Install the sensor of the safe parking system in the reverse order of removal.

Elements of the parking safety system sensor: 1 - parking safety system sensor; 2 - parking sensor holder; A - holder orientation mark

When installing holder 2, Figure 2, of the parking sensor on the rear bumper, mark "A" should be in the upper position.

Replacing the control and alarm unit of the parking safety system

Prepare the car for work.

Lift the hood and disconnect the negative terminal from the battery.

Open the trunk.

Remove the two buttons securing the trim and unscrew the left trim 1, figure 3, arches and sidewalls.

Control and signaling unit of the safe parking system: 1 - left trim of the arch and sidewall; 2 - connector of the rear wiring harness to the control and signaling unit of the safe parking system; 3 - self-tapping screw; 4 – control and signaling unit for the safe parking system, 5 – left side panel

Disconnect connector 2 of the rear wiring harness from control and signaling unit 4 for the safe parking system.

Using a T20 bit and a screwdriver, unscrew the two self-tapping screws 3 securing the unit to panel 5 of the left side panel and remove the control and signaling unit for the safe parking system.

Install the control and signaling unit for the safe parking system in the reverse order of removal.
