Heating is provided by air heated in heater radiators. Outside air enters the main heater through a grill located between the windshield and the hood
Then, depending on the position of the dampers, the air enters either through the heater core or through the air ducts.
The auxiliary heater works using the air inside the passenger compartment.
Let's consider the defects that may occur during the operation of the heating system, as well as methods for correcting defects.
- Cause of malfunction
Remedy
Heater fan motor (main or auxiliary) does not work:
- Damaged wires, oxidized or loose ends
Crimp terminals, strip ferrules, replace faulty wires
- Depreciation, freezing of the motor brushes, breakage in the armature winding, oxidation, wear of the collector
Clean manifold or replace motor
- Short circuit to ground of the armature winding (the fuse blows immediately)
Replace the motor
- Faulty heater switch
Replace the switch
Heater fan motor does not run at low speed:
- An additional resistor burned out, its wires are damaged or their tips are loosely put on
Replace resistor, crimp terminals, strip lugs, replace faulty wires
- Faulty heater switch
Replace the switch
Heater fan motor armature rotates slowly:
- Collector dirty or oxidized
Clean manifold or replace motor
- Interturn circuit of the armature winding (the fuse may blow)
Replace the motor
- Seizure of the armature shaft in the bearings (creaking, screeching, the fuse may blow)
Replace the motor
The interior of the car is poorly heated:
- Insufficient coolant temperature
See Malfunctions of the engine and its systems
- Little fluid in the cooling system
See Malfunctions of the engine and its systems
- The heater tap is stuck in the closed position, the cable dampers are stuck or the control cables are broken, their fastening is loose
Replace defective faucet, cables, dampers
Fix the cable sheaths securely, lubricate the cables with engine oil, adjust the drives
- Faulty heater core
Replace heatsink
The temperature in the cabin is not regulated
- Jamming of the heater tap, dampers, cables in the shells or their breakage, the fastening of the cable shells has loosened
Replace defective faucet, cables, dampers
Fix the cable sheaths securely, lubricate the cables with engine oil, adjust the drives
