Structurally, the windshield wiper of a Lada Kalina car consists of an electric motor, levers, brushes and hinges
Electric motor – three-brush, with excitation from permanent magnets, two-speed
A thermobimetallic fuse is installed to protect against overloads.
To reduce radio interference, a capacitor and inductor are installed. A faulty gear motor is best replaced.
Bent arms can be straightened, or the trapezoid can be completely replaced.
Replacing the windshield wiper gear motor
Remove the “-” terminal of the battery. Use a marker or felt-tip pen to mark the position of the blades on the windshield.
Pry it up with a screwdriver and remove the plastic cap
Unscrew the nut securing the brush lever
Remove the leash along with the brush from the shaft
We also remove the second leash
Use a wrench to unscrew the two screws securing the right and left facings
Remove the plug for the screw securing the left facing using a screwdriver and unscrew the two screws securing the right and left facing
Remove the left trim
Move the motor wire block to the right and remove it from the holder
Having released the block retainer, disconnect the wiper gear motor block from the wire block.
Use a 10mm socket to unscrew the two bolts and a 10mm wrench to unscrew the purifier mounting nut
Remove the windshield wiper with gear motor assembly
Use a felt-tip pen to mark the position of the crank relative to the wiper bracket.
Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the crank mounting nut and remove the crank from the gear motor shaft
Remove the three bolts securing the gear motor to the purifier bracket
Remove the gear motor from the bracket
Remove the protective film from the gear motor
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the four screws
Remove the gearbox cover with gasket
Use a screwdriver to unscrew the four screws
Remove the gearbox cover with gasket
If necessary, we replace the gears of the gear motor and clean the contacts of the self-stop mechanism.
Assemble and install the gear motor on the purifier bracket in the reverse order.
To install the gear motor shaft in its original position, we put the wire terminal on the “negative” terminal of the battery.
Connect the block of wires to the block of the gear motor and turn it on using the steering column switch, then turn it off and wait until the electric motor shaft stops.
In this position of the gear motor shaft, we install the crank according to the previously applied mark. We carry out further installation of the purifier in the reverse order.
Possible windshield wiper malfunctions and repair methods
The electric motor of the purifier does not work, the fuse in the mounting block is good
Wires are damaged, oxidized or their tips are loose - Crimp the tips, replace the faulty wires
Defective steering column switch - Replace the faulty wiper switch
The electric motor brushes are stuck, the commutator is very dirty or burnt - Eliminate the stuck brushes, clean the commutator or replace the gear motor
Breakage in the armature winding of the electric motor - Replace the gear motor
Auxiliary relay faulty - Replace relay
The electric motor of the purifier does not work, the fuse protecting the purifier circuit in the mounting block blows
The brushes are frozen to the glass - After turning off the cleaner, carefully separate the brushes from the glass, make sure that the rubber scraper is intact, and restore the mobility of the brush joints
The wiper blades touch body parts - Check the correct installation of the arms, straighten the deformed arms or replace the wiper
Short circuit in the motor winding - Replace the gear motor
The wiper motor does not work intermittently
The wiper relay is faulty - Replace the relay
The steering column switch is faulty - Replace the faulty switch
The wiper motor does not stop intermittently
The wiper relay is faulty - Replace the relay
The limit switch petals do not press well against the gear motor gear - Bend the contact petals of the limit switch
The contacts of the limit switch are oxidized or burnt - Clean the contacts or replace the purifier gear motor
Brushes stop in arbitrary position
The nut securing the crank to the axle is loose - Having installed the crank correctly, tighten the nut
The contact petals of the limit switch are not pressed well against the gear of the gear motor - Bend the contact petals of the limit switch
Brushes do not work synchronously
The lever of one of the brushes is loose on the shaft - Install the brush in the desired position and tighten the lever securing nut
The wiper motor works, but the brushes do not move
The nut securing the crank on the gear axis of the gear motor is loose - Having correctly installed the crank, tighten the nut
Gear teeth are chipped - Replace the gear motor
