We replace the muffler and resonator if they burn out, through corrosion or mechanical damage
In the first and second cases, it is better to replace the entire system assembly (except for the exhaust manifold).
It is better to work together on an inspection ditch or lift.
We first clean all connections from dirt, tap them with a hammer and treat them with WD-40 lubricant or kerosene.
Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the two nuts of the clamp securing the exhaust pipe to the muffler.
Remove the clamp.
Use pliers to remove the cotter pin and remove the washer securing the exhaust pipe to the rubber shock absorber.
We knock down the pipe through a wooden spacer
Disconnect the pipe from the muffler.
Remove the pipe bracket from the shock absorber and remove the pipe.
After removing another cotter pin and washer, remove the rubber shock absorber from the body.
Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the nuts of the clamp securing the intermediate pipe to the muffler and remove the clamp
In the same way, remove the clamp securing the intermediate pipe to the resonator
Using a wooden spacer, knock the intermediate pipe off the resonator and muffler and remove it (on cars with a straight intermediate pipe, first remove the muffler).
Using wrenches “12” and “13” unscrew the nuts of the front and rear muffler mounting clamps.
Remove the muffler.
Remove the clamp securing the exhaust pipe to the resonator.
Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the two nuts securing the rubber shock absorber of the resonator to the frame bracket.
Remove the spring and regular washers from the shock absorber studs.
Disconnect the receiving pipe from the resonator and remove it.
Using a 13mm wrench, unscrew the two nuts of the rubber shock absorber mounting bracket
Then, straightening it out, remove the cotter pin and washer.
Remove the resonator shock absorber from the hook
If necessary, we also change the shock absorbers of the muffler suspension
During assembly, we coat all pipe connections and clamp threads with graphite grease.
We first place the intermediate pipe on the resonator pipe.
We install the muffler with the seam down, guided by the notches of the lower half-rings of the clamps.
