Replace the crossbar in the following cases:
- - presence of significant visible mechanical damage;
- - occurrence of fatigue cracks;
- - inability to adjust the wheel alignment angles (if other means have been exhausted).
You will need the following wrenches for the job: "10", "14", "15", "17", "19", "22", "24", a steering rod puller, a hammer, and a screwdriver.
Disconnect the driveshaft and anti-roll bar from the front axle gearbox (see "Repair operations for the Niva Chevrolet driveshaft" and "How to remove the anti-roll bar on a VAZ-2123").
Disconnect the brake hoses from the pipes.
Cap the hoses and pipes to prevent brake fluid leakage.
Move the hoses to the side and secure them.
Unpin the nuts of the outer steering rod joint pins and unscrew them.
Install the puller and press the hinge pins out of the steering arms.
Unscrew the nuts securing the struts to the body side members
Unscrew the bolts securing the struts to the cross member
Remove the washers. Don't forget to install them during assembly.
Remove the struts.
Unscrew the nuts securing the front engine mount cushions and remove them together with the washers
Unscrew the nuts of the stabilizer mounting brackets to the lower arms and remove the brackets.
Lift the engine with a jack and secure it in this position.
Unscrew the nuts securing the crossmember to the body and remove the crossmember assembled with the gearbox and suspension units
Using the fact that the cross member is removed, assess the condition of the engine mount cushions.
If there is mechanical damage to the rubber mass or separation of the rubber from the reinforcement, as well as signs of rubber aging, replace the supports.
If it is necessary to replace the cross member, disconnect the front axle reducer and suspension units from it.
Install the cross member in the reverse order of removal.
After completing the work, do not forget to bleed the air from the brake system (see "Replacing the brake fluid Niva Chevrolet").
