Wash the bearings in diesel fuel. Check the running surfaces of the outer and inner races and the bearing cage
Rotate the outer race relative to the inner race in both directions to check for wear, cracks, or pitting (Figure 1).
Lubricate the bearing with gear oil and check that the outer race rotates smoothly.
Check the protrusion of the rollers (balls) from the outer race of the tapered roller bearing.
If the bearing is a ball bearing, visually inspect the bearing and bearing balls.
If there are defects, replace the bearing.
