We remove the rear wheel axle shafts to replace or adjust the rear axle gearbox or to remove the rear wheel hubs
Removing the rear wheels of a GAZ-2705
Use a wheel wrench (27mm head) to loosen the six wheel nuts.
We jack up and hang the rear axle on one side.
Unscrew the wheel nuts completely.
Under one of the nuts there is a plate for fastening the nipple of the “inner” wheel.
Remove the “outer” wheel
Remove the “inner” wheels
Install the wheels in reverse order, lubricating the studs with graphite lubricant.
Tightening torque of wheel nuts 30 – 38 kgcm.
You cannot install rear wheels of different sizes.
Removing the GAZ-2705 axle shaft
Using a 19mm socket, unscrew the eight nuts securing the axle shaft to the rear wheel hub.
Inserting a small container for oil into the wheel, use your hands or a special drift to pull it off the studs
Remove the axle shaft from the bridge
Remove the cardboard spacer from the studs
If there is no drift, and you cannot remove the axle shaft by hand, you can knock it out with a hammer through the bit, after first removing the outer wheel for convenience.
Install the axle shaft in reverse order, and then fill the wheel hub with oil.
