We remove the steering wheel to replace it, as well as when dismantling the steering column switch connector, steering column or instrument panel
The driver's airbag is installed in the steering wheel
The airbag is attached to the steering wheel with two plastic hooks that engage with two spring clips on the steering wheel
If you turn the steering wheel assembly with the airbag over, you can see how it is attached (Figure 2)
Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery
Wait 15 minutes for the airbag deployment capacitors to discharge
Set the steering wheel to a position corresponding to the straight-line movement of the car
Remove the driver's airbag module, to do this:
Insert two rods into two special holes on the sides of the steering wheel at the same time and squeeze the spring clips of the airbag module mount
At the same time, the assistant pulls the airbag module towards himself and moves it with the horn switch away from the steering wheel by the length of the wires
- (of course, you can do this alone, but you will have to take the hooks out of the clips one by one)
Turn the steering wheel to the straight-ahead position of the car and pry the wiring harness block retainer with a screwdriver
Remove the retainer from the block
Disconnect the block from the airbag. Remove the airbag
The removed driver's airbag should be stored in a dry place without excessive heating with the lining facing up
Install the airbag after installing the steering wheel in the reverse order
Mark the position of the steering wheel hub relative to the shaft
Unscrew the steering wheel mounting bolt, holding the steering wheel from turning
You do not need to completely unscrew the bolt to avoid injury when the steering wheel is suddenly disconnected from the steering wheel splines shaft.
With sharp blows of the hands along the axis of the steering shaft, knock the steering wheel off the splined end of the shaft.
Fully unscrew the steering wheel mounting bolt
Remove the steering wheel hub from the shaft splines and bring the wire with the airbag connector out through the hole in the hub
And remove the steering wheel
In order not to damage the current-carrying busbar of the contact ring of the airbag, we fix the ring from turning
To do this, insert a piece of thin plate into a special groove on the outer circumference of the ring. A piece of a clamping clamp works well for this.
Before installing the steering wheel, do not forget to remove the retainer!
Install the steering wheel in the reverse order.
Apply anaerobic thread locker to the threads of the steering wheel mounting bolt. When installing the steering wheel, the bolt must be replaced.
Tighten the mounting bolt to a torque of 44 Nm.
Connect the wiring block to the airbag connector and insert the retainer
Install the driver's airbag on the steering wheel so that the airbag hooks enter the corresponding holes in the steering wheel and press on the airbag until the airbag hooks snap into place with the steering wheel clamps.
Removing and installing the steering wheel cover columns
Unscrew the two cover fastening screws located on the lower surface of the lower cover
Pull up and remove the top part of the cover
Remove the right side of the lower part of the cover from the ignition switch
We remove the retainer of the lower part of the casing from engagement with the instrument panel and remove the lower part
We install the casing in the reverse order
