The windshield wiper kit consists of a gearmotor (electric motor with gearbox), levers and brushes

The movement of the brushes is parallel.

The electric motor of the cleaner is excited by permanent magnets, three-brush, with two rotation speeds.

To protect the electric motor from overloads when the brushes freeze to the glass or there is high resistance to their movement, a thermobimetallic fuse is installed in the wiper.

Wiper relay and wiper fuse in mounting block

To supply washer fluid to the windshield, two washer nozzles are installed on the hood.

The liquid is supplied to them by an electric pump through an elastic tube from the windshield washer reservoir mounted on the right mudguard in the engine compartment.

The pump is installed on the wall of the tank.

Switch positions: The dotted line shows the positions in which the switch levers are not fixed

You can check the serviceability of the electric windshield washer pump by applying 12 V voltage to its terminals directly from the battery.

The faulty pump must be replaced.

Closed contacts at switch positions and turning on electrical equipment:

Possible malfunctions of the windshield wiper

- Cause of malfunction

Remedy

The wiper motor does not work

The bimetallic fuse does not trip and the fuse in the mounting block does not blow:

- The power wires of the gearmotor are damaged, the tips of the wires in the connecting blocks are oxidized

Check the wires, replace damaged ones. Clean the tips

- The wiper switch is damaged

Replace the wiper switch in the steering column switch

- Stuck motor brushes, severe contamination or burning of the commutator

Check, eliminate stuck brushes or replace damaged parts; clean the collector

- Broken wire in the armature winding of the electric motor

Replace the armature or gear motor

The wiper motor does not work

the bimetallic fuse trips, or the fuse in the mounting block blows:

- The levers of the wiper mechanism are deformed and touch body parts

Check, straighten the arms or replace the windshield wiper

- The brushes are frozen to the glass

Separate the brushes from the glass, avoiding damage to the rubber band

- A foreign object has entered the wiper mechanism

Check, remove item

- Short circuit in the armature winding of the electric motor

Replace the gear motor or motor armature

The wiper motor does not work intermittently:

- The wiper switch is damaged

Replace the wiper switch in the steering column switch

- Wiper relay damaged

Replace the relay

The wiper motor does not stop intermittently:

- Wiper relay damaged

Replace the wiper relay

- Poor contact of the limit switch contact petals to the gear motor gear

Fold the contact tabs of the limit switch

- Contamination of the limit switch contacts in the gear motor

Clean the switch contacts

The electric motor of the cleaner works, the brushes do not move:

- Broken gear motor gear teeth

Replace the gear

- Weak fastening of the crank on the axis of the gear motor gear

Check and tighten the crank nut, placing it in its final position
